    Michael McShane

    Michael McShane will discuss “The 2016 Presidential Election: History and What Each Party Needs to Do to Win” at the Chapter luncheon on 24 March at the Glenmore Country Club. 

    Mr. McShane has been a U.S. Air Force officer, a legislative assistant to a member of Congress, a Foreign Service officer, a White House special assistant to Vice President Walter Mondale, a senior advisor to the Clinton White House and a government relations executive with Fortune 500 companies. 

    He served on the faculty of the Bryce Harlow Foundation, an organization dedicated to educating university students about American political history. He has lectured on government and politics at Stanford, Notre Dame, Georgetown and American Universities and the University of Virginia. He was visiting university lecturer in American political history at Boston University. 

    He has worked on 11 presidential campaigns including the Carter, Kerry, Biden, Gore-Lieberman and three Clinton Presidential campaigns and was vice chair of the Lieberman for President Campaign. 

    At the request of President Clinton’s chief of staff, he created and chaired the Business Kitchen Cabinet for the president. In addition, Mr. McShane served as vice chair of the U.S. Government/Private Sector Delegation that negotiated for two years with the European Union for an agreement in connection with new EU regulations governing the trans-mission of personally identifiable information across international borders. 

    He was founder, president and CEO of the Policy Institute and founder and president of the McShane Group International with clients in Taiwan, Nigeria, Kenya, Russia and Egypt. 

    He is a 1966 graduate of East Carolina University with a BS in history. In 1998, he was selected as one of the University's outstanding alumni. He has served as vice chair of the Board of Visitors and presently serves on the board of the alumni association. 

    He and his wife, Susan, live in Charlottesville, VA.
